The Living Christ

We are counseled to “look forward with an eye of faith” to the day we will stand before the Lord Jesus Christ (Alma 5:15). Through the ages, artists and authors have left us a heritage of faith, directing our gaze beyond the mortal horizon. The famous “Christus” sculpture by Bertel Thorvaldsen has inspired millions of Christians across the world to see the risen Christ with the eye of faith. The red robe in this painting symbolizes the Atonement for our sins, for when Christ comes again He shall be “clothed in a vesture dipped in blood” (Revelations 19:13). This painting is meant to be emblematic of the glory and intensity we would feel coming before of the Living Christ.
