An Obscure Boy
Art Description
Joseph described himself as “an obscure boy…who was doomed to the necessity of obtaining a scanty maintenance by his daily labor.” His mother describes him as “being a remarkably quiet, well-disposed child,….given to meditation and deep study.”
Young Joseph was inquisitive and hard working, but above all he was honest of heart. Of those years he says, “Though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true….I knew it, and I knew God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it.”
